Inquiry - Science: Sink or Float?

Our Science Investigation with Room 1 and 7 today had the children predicting if they thought a number of objects would sink or float when placed into water.   They used a recording sheet to show their predictions.
Children moved around testing the objects in containers of water and recording their results.
The children also demonstrated their "Whakarongo Kid Values" working together and sharing the resources.
A highlight, and surprise for a large number of the children was an Orange.  As a whole orange it floated, and the peel, on its own, also floated.   However the peeled orange sank to the bottom.  Great ideas and suggested were discussed as to 'why' this might be.  Much talk surrounded the fact that they thought the orange peel acted like a 'life jacket' to the rest of the orange. :-)

Charlotte finds a rectangle and Jack points out an oval.

AG Day -

WOW!  Week 1 of Term 4 was a fantastic lead up to Ag Day.  Yes, it was wet, but everyone still enjoyed seeing all the fabulous work that went on around the school.   Riley looks so proud leading around his calf Kellie.

Our Animal and farm themed week was a great success with loads of collaboration, creativity and cooperation going on.  Mobilo Farm Machinery ideas were a huge hit as one of our rotations.
Look at the results from some of the work done in class.
